Flashforge Creator 5 vs Creator 5 Pro: What Does the Extra $150 Actually Buy?

Our rating: Creator 5 4.2/5 · Creator 5 Pro 4.1/5Published October 26, 20268 min readBy 3DPrintedDecor
Flashforge Creator 5 open-frame printer next to the enclosed Creator 5 Pro, each with four filament spools
The Creator 5 (left) is open frame. The Creator 5 Pro (right) adds the enclosure, heated chamber and filtration.

Buy the Creator 5 if you print PLA, PETG and TPU: it has the same four toolheads, 256 mm cube and 320°C nozzle as the Pro for $150 less. Buy the Creator 5 Pro only if you want an enclosed frame, a chamber that heats to 65°C and HEPA 13 filtration for ABS, ASA or nylon.

Flashforge sells these as two separate printers, but the difference is the box around them. The motion system, toolheads, speeds and temperatures match on paper.

We have not tested either printer. This comparison uses Flashforge’s own spec pages, Amazon listing data checked on October 25 and 26, 2026, and verified buyer reviews.

What Do You Get for the Extra $150?

The Pro adds an enclosed frame, active chamber heating up to 65°C, HEPA 13 plus activated-carbon filtration, auxiliary cooling and door detection. The Creator 5 is an open-frame printer with chamber lighting only. Everything else on Flashforge’s comparison page matches.

That means the same 256 × 256 × 256 mm build volume, the same PEI flexible steel plate, a 320°C nozzle and 120°C bed on both. Flashforge lists 600 mm/s travel speed, 300 mm/s print speed and 30,000 mm/s² acceleration for both as well.

How Do the Specs Compare Side by Side?

Apart from the enclosure, the two printers are nearly identical on paper. The Creator 5 wins on price and power draw. The Pro wins on everything that depends on a closed, heated chamber.

Do You Need the Pro for PLA, PETG and TPU?

No. Flashforge lists PLA, PETG, TPU (90A, 95A and 64D), carbon-fiber PLA and PETG, silk, PVA and BVOH as recommended materials for the Creator 5, and none of those need an enclosure. TPU softer than 90A is not on the official list.

If you print decor, toys, organizers and Gridfinity-style parts, you would pay $150 for features you rarely use. Spend that money on a filament dryer and a few good spools.

Our multi-color printers under $1,100 guide compares the cheaper ways to get multi-color, and our Creator 5 vs Bambu Lab P1S Combo comparison puts the Creator against Bambu Lab’s P1S Combo.

Can the Creator 5 Print ABS and ASA Without the Pro?

Flashforge lists ABS, ASA, HIPS and several carbon-fiber nylons for the Creator 5 only “with an enclosure”. The product page says you can build an enclosure around it for passive heat retention, but we found no first-party enclosure from Flashforge.

Without one, expect warping on larger ABS and ASA parts, and a draft will make it worse. A DIY enclosure can work, but you then lose the active 65°C heating, the filtration and the door detection that the Pro includes.

If you know you will print these plastics, buy the Pro, or look at the Snapmaker U1 with its $149 top cover. We compare the Pro and the U1 in our Flashforge Creator 5 Pro vs Snapmaker U1 comparison. Our PLA vs ABS vs PETG guide explains why the enclosure matters.

What Are Creator 5 Buyers Saying?

Two Creator 5 reviews are all we have to go on, so treat these as examples. One new-to-3D-printing buyer calls setup easy and clear, got a first print that came out perfect, and would recommend it to a beginner.

That buyer also had one toolhead throw an error and refuse to load filament until they kept retrying, which they put down to leftover factory-test material, and rated support on that step as poor.

The other buyer likes the price and the design, and says it prints well with no firmware or slicer problems. They also report that the nozzles collect filament, so the tips need cleaning more often, that you have to tweak some slicer settings, and that the purge lines could be better. Printing a purge bin helps, they say, and they hope Flashforge releases root access someday.

Watch out: The Creator 5 rates 4.0 stars on 1,003 reviews, the same as the Pro. Both score below the Snapmaker U1’s 4.6, so check Amazon’s return window and test the printer as soon as it arrives.

The Reality of Long-Term Ownership

We have not run either printer for months, so this section covers what Flashforge’s pages and buyers tell us. Treat it as a checklist of questions, not a verdict from hands-on use.

Maintenance and wear

Four toolheads means four nozzles to keep clean, and one buyer says the tips need cleaning often. Flashforge lists removable nozzles in 0.25, 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8 mm sizes for the Pro.

Abrasive filaments such as carbon fiber wear standard nozzles faster, so price a hardened nozzle before you buy a lot of it.

Hidden costs

Neither printer includes a filament dryer, and Flashforge sells a dry box separately. Our Creality Space Pi review covers dryers worth buying.

The Creator 5 lists 700 W and the Pro 1,200 W, but those are peak ratings and not what a normal print draws.

The tinkerer’s hack

Three tips from buyers, not the manuals:
  • Creator 5: print a purge bin so the purge material does not litter the build plate.
  • Creator 5 Pro: update the firmware and run calibration again before your first real print.
  • Both: put the printer on a solid surface with room on every side, because buyers report vibration while it runs.

Should You Buy the Creator 5, the Pro or the Snapmaker U1?

Buy the Creator 5 if you print PLA, PETG and TPU and want the lowest price in this class. It is $699 against the Snapmaker U1’s $749, with the same four-toolhead idea.

Buy the Pro if you want an enclosed, heated, filtered chamber out of the box. Look at the U1 if you value its 4.6-star rating, open firmware and 270 mm cube more than the Flashforge price.

Our full Creator 5 Pro vs Snapmaker U1 comparison covers the U1 against the Pro in detail, and our Snapmaker U1 review covers the U1 on its own.

Should You Buy Now or Wait for Black Friday?

Black Friday is November 27, 2026 and Cyber Monday is November 30. Amazon has not announced its sale dates, and recent years suggest a start around November 19. No further price drop is guaranteed for either printer.

The Creator 5 is already 17% under its Amazon list price. Watch our Black Friday 3D printer deals page for the sale prices.

Creator 5 vs Creator 5 Pro FAQ

What is the difference between the Flashforge Creator 5 and Creator 5 Pro?

The Pro is enclosed, heats its chamber to 65°C and adds HEPA 13 and carbon filtration, auxiliary cooling and door detection. The Creator 5 is open frame with chamber lighting only. Build volume, toolheads, temperatures and speeds match.

Is the Creator 5 Pro worth $150 more?

Only if you print ABS, ASA, nylon or carbon-fiber filaments, or want filtered air. For PLA, PETG and TPU the Creator 5 does the same job for less.

Can the Creator 5 print ABS?

Flashforge lists ABS only with an enclosure. The Creator 5 is open frame, so you would need to build your own, and you would not get active chamber heating.

How many colors can the Creator 5 print at once?

Four. It has four independent toolheads, and each takes its own filament.

Is the Creator 5 loud or shaky?

Buyers of both Flashforge models report vibration while printing, and advise a solid surface with clearance around it. We have not measured noise.

How much does the Creator 5 cost compared with the Snapmaker U1?

On October 25-26, 2026, the Creator 5 was $699 (Amazon list $839) and the Snapmaker U1 was $749 (list $849). Prices change, so check each listing.

Final Verdict: Creator 5 or Creator 5 Pro?

Most buyers should save the $150 and take the Creator 5. The Pro earns its price only when you will use the enclosure, the heated chamber and the filter.
