Which Elegoo Should You Buy? Pick by What You’ll Print

Tabletop miniatures and figurines

Mars 5 Ultra. The 9K screen shows fine detail like faces and armor edges. For printing a whole squad in one go, step up to the Saturn 4 Ultra.

Jewelry, rings and small ornaments

Mars 5 Ultra. Small parts don’t need a big plate, and a sharper screen gives smoother surfaces with less sanding.

Cosplay parts, busts and tall models

Saturn 3 Ultra. At 10.24 in, it has the tallest build height here and the most room overall.

Big batches of detailed models

Saturn 4 Ultra 16K. It has a large plate, the highest resolution and a heated tank, so it prints reliably in cold rooms.

Home decor: vases, planters, lamps and organizers

Centauri 2. FDM is cheaper per print and handles larger, functional pieces. There’s no resin to clean up.

Trying 3D printing for the first time on a tight budget

Mars 5. It’s under $200 with auto leveling, so you can find out whether resin printing is for you without spending much.

Build Size Compared: What You Actually Get

Size is where these printers differ most, and the price doesn’t always tell you that. We calculated the build volume of each from Elegoo’s listed dimensions:

PrinterBuild sizeVolumeScreenPrice
Mars 55.65 × 3.53 × 5.91 in~118 in³ (1.9 L)4K$199.99
Mars 5 Ultra6.04 × 3.06 × 6.49 in~120 in³ (2.0 L)7″ 9K$299.99
Saturn 4 Ultra 16K8.33 × 4.66 × 8.66 in~336 in³ (5.5 L)10″ 16K$493.99
Saturn 3 Ultra 12K8.62 × 4.84 × 10.24 in~427 in³ (7.0 L)10″ 12K$339.99
Centauri 2 (FDM)256 × 256 × 256 mm~16.8 L—$279.00

Two things the numbers show:

  • The Mars 5 Ultra has almost the same build volume as the Mars 5. The extra $100 gets you a sharper 9K screen, Wi-Fi and print detection. It doesn’t get you bigger prints.
  • The cheaper Saturn 3 Ultra holds about 27% more than the Saturn 4 Ultra. With the Saturn 4 Ultra you’re paying for resolution and the heated tank, not size.

Resin or FDM: The Honest Difference

Choose resin (Mars or Saturn) if you mainly want miniatures, figurines, jewelry or small decor with very smooth surfaces. The tradeoff is cleanup. Every print needs washing in isopropyl alcohol and curing under UV light, and you’ll need gloves and good ventilation.

Choose FDM (Centauri 2) if you want larger decor, household parts, organizers and functional prints. There’s no liquid resin to handle, each print costs less, and you just remove the part from the bed when it’s done.

What It Really Costs to Start Resin Printing

The printer is only part of the cost. Budget for these before your first print:

  • Resin: a 1 kg bottle is enough for many miniatures. Standard or “water-washable” resin is fine for beginners.
  • Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) for washing prints, or water if you use water-washable resin.
  • Nitrile gloves and safety glasses. Liquid resin irritates skin, so never handle it with bare hands.
  • A UV curing light or wash-and-cure station. Sunlight works too, but it’s slower and less consistent.
  • Paper towels, a silicone mat and a plastic scraper to keep your workspace clean.

Expect to spend roughly $40–$80 on top of the printer for a basic setup, and more if you add a wash-and-cure station.

Resin Safety Checklist

  • Print in a room with good airflow, not a closed bedroom.
  • Keep the printer and resin away from children and pets.
  • Wear nitrile gloves every time you touch resin, the vat or uncured prints.
  • Never pour liquid resin or used IPA down the drain. Cure leftover resin in sunlight until it’s solid, then dispose of it.
  • Keep resin warm. Cold rooms cause failed prints, which is why the Saturn 4 Ultra’s heated tank is useful.

Your First Week: Get Good Prints Fast

  1. Check leveling first. All five printers auto-level, but run the first print with a small test model before you try anything big.
  2. Print an exposure test. Every resin needs slightly different settings. A calibration print takes about 30 minutes and prevents most failed prints.
  3. Start small and hollow your models. Hollowing saves resin and reduces failures on larger resin prints. Add drain holes.
  4. Inspect the film. Look for cloudiness or dents on the vat film before each print, since damaged film is a common cause of failures.
  5. For the Centauri 2: start with PLA and well-reviewed models before moving to higher-temperature filaments.

Holiday Decor You Can Print With These

Resin (Mars and Saturn)

Detailed Christmas ornaments, figurine nativity sets, miniature village pieces, ring dishes and small sculptures you can paint as gifts.

FDM (Centauri 2)

Vases printed in vase mode, planters, lamp shades, cookie cutters, wall art, gift boxes and desk organizers.

How to Spot a Real Elegoo Black Friday Deal

  • Compare against today’s price. These prices are from Nov 7. If a “Black Friday” price is higher than this, it isn’t a deal.
  • Check what the “was” price really is. Amazon shows either a list price or a recent “Was” price. The Was price is usually the more honest baseline.
  • Check the seller. All six products here are sold by Elegoo’s own store, so warranty support is simple. Be careful with third-party sellers offering lower prices.
  • Look for multi-buy promos. Some Elegoo listings show “Save 5% on 2 select items,” which can make a printer plus filament cheaper.

FAQ

When is Black Friday 2026?

Black Friday is Friday, November 27, 2026, and Cyber Monday is November 30. Amazon usually starts running deals in the days before.

Which Elegoo printer is best for beginners?

For resin, the Mars 5 Ultra. It has auto leveling, Wi-Fi and a 9K screen for $299.99. For FDM, the Centauri 2 at $279 has full auto calibration, so setup is simple.

Is the Mars 5 Ultra worth $100 more than the Mars 5?

Yes, if you print miniatures or jewelry, because the 9K screen shows noticeably finer detail. It doesn’t give you more space, though. Both printers have about the same build volume.

Is the Saturn 4 Ultra worth $150 more than the Saturn 3 Ultra?

If you want the sharpest detail and a heated tank, yes. If you want the most build room for less money, the Saturn 3 Ultra holds about 27% more and costs less.

Will Elegoo prices drop further on Black Friday?

We can’t promise that. The Saturn 4 Ultra (5% off) and Centauri 2 (no discount) have the most room to drop. Three resin printers are already 16% off.

What else do I need for a resin printer?

Resin, isopropyl alcohol or a wash-and-cure station, nitrile gloves, paper towels and good ventilation. Plan on roughly $40–$80 extra for a basic setup.
