You can still buy a good 3D printer for under $200 on Amazon, but there are fewer of them than last year. Only three printers we track are under $200 right now with a current price, and four more sit just above the line and are worth considering.

Best for kids and total beginners who want to print fast. It arrives fully assembled, with auto leveling, app and WiFi control and a 3,500+ model library, according to the listing. It’s a mini printer, so expect small prints.

The best full-size starter at $199. It has auto leveling, a direct-drive extruder and easy assembly, and it comes with the largest community of owners to help when something goes wrong.

ELEGOO Mars 5
The beginner-friendly resin option. Automatic leveling removes the fiddliest setup step, but resin still needs gloves, ventilation and isopropyl alcohol, so choose it only if you want fine detail, such as miniatures.

Anycubic Photon Mono 4

FDM or Resin: Which Should You Buy?
Choose FDM if…
You want a cleaner, safer printer for everyday objects, decor and functional parts, with larger prints and cheaper materials. This is the right choice for most beginners.
Choose resin if…
You want fine detail for miniatures, jewelry or models, and you can work with gloves, ventilation and isopropyl alcohol for cleaning.
Your First Week With a New 3D Printer
A Simple Plan:
- Day 1: Set it up, run the auto-leveling or self-check, and print a ready-made model that comes with the printer or app
- Day 2-3: Download a few small models from a library such as Printables or MakerWorld and print them
- Day 4-5: Learn the slicer basics: layer height, infill and supports
- Day 6-7: Print something useful, such as a planter, organizer or phone stand
Common Beginner Mistakes
Buying a printer without auto leveling
Manual leveling is the step that frustrates most beginners. Every printer on this page levels itself.
Skipping the filament budget
Plan for at least one spool of PLA. Our add-ons show PLA at roughly $11 to $12 per kg in 2kg and 4kg packs.
Ignoring resin’s extra work
Resin printing needs washing, curing, gloves and ventilation. It isn’t plug-and-print like FDM.
Printing on a dirty or wrong build plate
Fingerprints and dust cause failed first layers. Wipe the plate before each print.

What is the best 3D printer under $200 for beginners?
Right now, the Creality Ender 3 V3 SE at $199 is the best full-size starter, and the Entina Tina2C at $189.99 is the easiest for kids and total beginners. If you can spend $50 more, the Bambu Lab A1 Mini at $249 is the easiest printer to use.
Why are there only three printers under $200 here?
Several printers we used to list under $200 are now $229 to $249, and some, such as the original Ender 3 and the Tina2 Basic V11, were out of stock on Amazon when we checked on October 14. Only the Tina2C, the Ender 3 V3 SE and the ELEGOO Mars 5 are under $200 with a current price.
Is a $200 printer good enough?
Yes. The Ender 3 V3 SE levels its own bed and has a direct-drive extruder, and the Tina2C arrives fully assembled. You can print useful and decorative items from day one.
Should I buy an FDM or resin printer as a beginner?
FDM, for most people. It’s cleaner, works in any room and prints larger objects. Choose resin only if you want miniatures or jewelry and can handle gloves, ventilation and isopropyl alcohol.
What else do I need besides the printer?
Filament, a few basic tools, and a place to print. The starter costs above show a printer, 2kg or 4kg of PLA and a tool kit adding $45 to $68 to the printer price.
How hard is 3D printing to learn?
With an auto-leveling printer you can make your first print the same day by using a ready-made model. Designing your own models takes longer, but you don’t need to for most projects.
What safety precautions do I need?
With FDM printers, don’t touch the hot nozzle or heated bed, and print ABS only with good ventilation. With resin printers, wear nitrile gloves and eye protection, keep the room ventilated, and never touch uncured resin.
Should I wait for Black Friday?
Use the October prices on this page as your baseline. Amazon hasn’t announced its dates yet, but sales are expected around November 19 to 30. If a printer drops below its current price, that’s a real deal.
Where did the others go? The original Creality Ender 3 and the Entina Tina2 Basic V11 were out of stock on Amazon when we checked on October 14, and the ELEGOO Neptune 3 Pro and Creality K1 SE are no longer listed. The Bambu Lab A1 Mini is now $249, no longer under $200.
